Trinity (Lutheran) Church
After the absence of a Lutheran community in Aub for over one hundred years, Lutherans gradually returned and in the early 1900’s had the desire to construct a church of their own. In 1926, the present church, with its onion dome adding to the city silhouette, was consecrated. Less than twenty years later, it was very badly damaged by the American shelling at the end of World War II and has since been rebuilt. The small Baroque altar dates from about 1700 and was brought from Guelchsheim to this location.
Nestled between Trinity Church and the City Tower is a beer garden establishment from the Biedermeier Period (early 1800’s), constructed on a filled-in part of the former moat. Hidden behind the calm façade is a typical German beer garden, the scene of many lively gatherings. An earlier attraction was the open-air bowling alley that ran alongside the garden, under the protective roof.
This area is an ideal place to note the extensive protective fortifications of the city.
